SEVEN STEPS TO BECOME A SON
| I. | Selection: Matt 4:19 "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. |
| | A. | Follow Me: Jesus was saying He would be their example: spiritual fathers must do the same |
| | B. | Make you: before Jesus sends us to do, He first calls us to be something: "MAKE YOU" |
| | 1. | Mark 3:14 15: Note the order: |
| | a. | "they should be with him"...relationship & then send them |
| II. | Commitment: Matt 4:20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. & Mk 3:13 |
| | A. | Jesus gave the invitation / cast the mantle: disciples had to make their own choice to follow. |
| | 1. | To get God’s best: requires a commitment...the degree of commitment determines the degree of fruit & success you will experience: |
| | a. | Matt 20:16 " many are called, but few chosen." |
| III. | Instruction: Matt 5:1-2 "disciples came unto Him....taught them". |
| | A. | Not enough just to select: must have the process of relationship & instruction / training |
| | 1. | This portion of the process takes years: fellowship, teaching, praying together: no hurry. |
| | a. | Goal not numbers & quantity: goal is quality sons |
| IV. | Observation: Matt Chapters 8 & 9 Disciples were not DOING anything & OBSERVED... |
| | A. | Matt 28:20 " Teaching them to observe all things ... I have commanded you" |
| | 1. | Def Observe: to keep the eye upon / observe watched Jesus do ministry & observe word |
| | a. | Jesus not only taught but also illustrated the things He taught His disciple |
| V. | Delegation: Matt 10:1 Jesus gave them authority / delegated to disciples in stages. |
| | A. | Lk 16:10 faithful in least: watch & see if faithful & obedient & stay in delegated boundaries. |
| | 1. | Delegation teaches : discipline, self control, not just anointing & gifting |
| | 2. | DON’T DUMP / DELEGATE: give small measures of responsibilities & then inspect |
| | a. | Luke 9:1 2 Jesus delegates a degree of ministry to disciples (not totally released) |
| | b. | Luke 9:10 #1 they were returned (not yet totally released) #2 told Him all they did / inspect |
| VI. | Correction: Matt 17:14-21 Correction is not punishment |
| | A. | Matt 10:1 Jesus delegated go heal the sick, etc. |
| | 1. | Vs 19 In their failure the spiritual sons went to Jesus: "why could we not..." |
| | 2. | Vs 20-21 Jesus corrected & showed a better way & how to get more results |
| | a. | Without relationships: sons will not come to you in midst of their failure |
| | b. | Correction will end up in offense instead of better preparation & more training |
| VII. | Ordination: Matt 28:16-29 Def Appointed: ordain |
| | A. | Note the After the process: The one who selected them also ordained them |
| | 1. | After the: Selection: Instruction, Commitment, Observation, Delegation & Correction: |
| | a. | After the process was fulfilled: then Jesus RELEASED them into fulness of ministry |
| | (1) | after found faithful to the entire process & became MATURED SONS |
| | (2) | after proven in character / proven in ministry / able to handle problems: |
