SPIRIT OF PRIDE
| I. | Hab 2:4 Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith. |
| | A. | 1 Jn 2:16 "the pride of life"...... note "in the world" |
| | 1. | Isa 14:12 The Five "I’s" of Lucifer are rooted in pride & self exaltation |
| | 2. | Ezek 28:17 "your heart (Lucifer) was lifted up" |
| | a. | Prv 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall |
| II. | Example of people filled with pride: King Hezekiah 2 Chron 32:23-26 |
| | A. | Vs 25 "did not repay according to the favor shown him, for his heart was lifted up" |
| | 1. | Vs 26 teaches us that as Hezekiah humbled himself, he delayed judgement due to his pride |
| | B. | Example of pride: Nebuchadnezzar Daniel 4:28-34 |
| | 1. | Nebuchadnezzar: thought he accomplished all thru his own strength & took the glory: |
| | a. | Isa 48:11 teaches us that God will not allow man to take the glory due to Him |
| | (1) | our confession is to be: LOOK WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE! |
| | 2. | Dan 5:20-21: "His heart was lifted up"....spirit was hardened with pride": note the results of pride |
| | a. | #1 Pride develops a hard heart: mainly because prideful people are "self centered" |
| | b. | #2 People fill with pride also loose their blessings: vs 20 "they took his glory from him" |
| | 3. | Key for restoration from pride: |
| | a. | Dan 4:34 "I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven" (get your eyes off of yourself) |
| III. | The most dangerous time to be tempted with pride is in the midst of: success, blessing, prosperity & break thru |
| | A. | Usually when we are in need, we are seeking God. But, when blessings begin to flow man has a tendency to become self sufficient and prideful. |
| | 1. | God warned Israel that their greatest battles they would face in their promised land was the they armies of their enemies, giants and fortified cities. Their greatest battle would come from within their own heart in the midst of success and prosperity: PRIDE |
| | B. | Deut 6:11 "when you have eaten and are full: vs 12 "beware, lest you forget the Lord: |
| | 1. | | Deut 8:10-14 | Vs 10 "When you have eaten and are full" | | Vs 11 "Beware that you do not forget The Lord" | | Vs 12 "lest-when you have eaten and are full" | | Vs 13 "all that you have is multiplied" | | Vs 14 "when your heart is lifted up, and you forget The Lord" |

| | 2. | Deut 8:17 then you say in your heart, 'My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth. |

| | a. | It is God who has blessed us through what Jesus Christ has done on Calvary, and not thru our might and power |

| | 1. | Pride is the nature of fallen man and carnal believers: |
| | a. | Pride does not just manifest thru an arrogant attitude: |
| | (1) | When the sinner says: I do not need to be Born Again...they are filled with pride |
| | (2) | When the believer says: Id can serve God without being committed to a local church: they are fill with pride |
| | (3) | When a believer says I do not believe in tithing: they are saying they are self sufficient and will provide for their own needs and do not need God's blessing |
| | (4) | When a believer says: they do not need the baptism in the Holy Ghost to be filled with power from on high: they are filled with pride and say their own power is sufficient to live a godly life and do the work of the ministry |
| | (5) | When a believer does not make a commitment to develop a life in the Word of God & in Prayer: they are saying they can keep themselves and do not need more grace |
| | C. | James 4:6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud But gives grace to the humble" |
