JOSH. 14:6-14

I. Def Caleb: forcible, to attack

A. vs 12 “give me this mountain” refers to Caleb obtaining his inheritance / promise of God

B. Matt 11:12 Def Force: to seize/ Caleb a type of a believer seizing their mountain, inheritance, promise of God


II. Spiritual Truth #1 for obtaining your Mountain: CALEB REMEMBERED THE PROMISE OF GOD A. Josh 14: 6 & 9

1. Caleb was speaking of the promise God ave him 45 years earlier: Josh 14:7 & 10

2. 45 years later Caleb was still standing on the promise of God: Ps 119:16 & Ps.103:2

3.Caleb even expected everyone else to remember God’s promise to him:

a. Josh 14:6 “You know the word which the Lord said...”


III. Spiritual Truth #2 for obtaining your Mountain: CALEB WARRED WITH HIS PROPHETIC WORD

A. Josh 14:6

B. Caleb did warfare with his prophetic word: 1 Tim. 1:8

1. Eph. 6:17 Def “word”: Rhema / an utterance


IV Spiritual Truth #3 for obtaining your mountain: “I (CALEB) WHOLLY FOLLOWED GOD” Josh 14:8,9,14

A. Josh 14:7 Moses send Caleb on an assignment to spy out the land he would some day inherit

1. No room for compromise in our actions or words

B. Josh 14:7 “I brought back word to him as it was in my heart” / What was in Caleb’s heart?

1. Num. 13:30 “we are able”

a. Caleb’s actions and his confession reveal that he “wholly followed God”

C. All 12 spies went to the same promise land, all of their actions were the same: But, their confessions differed

1. Num 14:25 Note: “Caleb....hath followed me fully”


V. Spiritual Truth #4 for obtaining your Mountain: “CALEB HAD ANOTHER SPIRIT” Num 14:24

A. Caleb had a “spirit of faith” 2 Cor 4:13

1. The other spies had a “spirit of fear” 2 Tim 1:7

2. Fear says: Num. 13:31 “we are not able”

a. Faith says: Phil 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me”

3. Fear says: Num. 13:31 “they (spies) gave the children of Israel a bad / evil report”

a. Faith says: Phil. 4:8 “things of a good report”

B. FEAR PARALYZES / FAITH RELEASES & ACTIVATES: 2 Tim 1:6-7

1. Vs 6 “stir up the gift of god”: fear can paralyze the gift of God in you

2. Caleb attempted to help Israel overcome the Paralysis of Fear: Num. 14:7-10


VI. Caleb’s Confession at 85 years old:

A. Josh. 14:10 “ the Lord hath kept me alive”

1. Caleb knew that God seen him through every battle he faced in life

B. Josh. 14:11 I am as strong this day as on the day Moses sent me”

1. Caleb was still confessing good health at 85 years old

C. Josh. 14:11 “Just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war”

1. Caleb never retired from the work of God & spiritual warfare

D. Josh. 14:12 I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord has said”

1. At 85 years of age Caleb was still confessing what he could accomplish by the power & favor of God

a. Ps. 92:14 “still bring forth fruit in old age”


VII. Results of Caleb:

A. REMEMBERING THE PROMISE OF GOD

B. WARRING WITH HIS PROPHETIC WORD

C. WHOLLY FOLLOWING GOD

D. MOVING IN THE SPIRIT OF FAITH

1. Num. 14:24 “Him (Caleb) will I bring into the land whereinto he went, and his seed shall possess it.”

2. Josh 14:14-15 Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb

a. Results: vs 15 “the land had rest from war

b. Kirjath-arba Def: city of four giants

(1) Your Mountain can never experience “rest from war”, until you cry out by faith:

(a) “GIVE ME THIS MOUNTAIN”
